Classical architecture and state-of-the-art technology are joined with this new facility which will prepare Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute students, faculty and corporate executives for the twenty-first century. The renovation also brings the 100 year-old building into compliance with accessability, the ADA and other code-related issues.

This adaptive reuse project embraces a vision for the classroom of the future, a space that is flexible in use and can accommodate the latest interactive multimedia and video-conferencing facilities, long distance learning, and anticipate future technical innovations. Furthermore, the new computer facilities will allow the students to participate in a satellite link to China, and other parts of the world as the system expands. The RPI campus is deeply involved with the concept of electronic classrooms and interactive learning. Our definition of interactive is not just electronic but social. The Pittsburgh Building and surrounding areas provide a rich social experience and sense of place for the management school community. The process involved extensive programming for the new, complex curriculum. LHPA worked closely with the RPI user groups in a highly interactive design process.
