Antonio Figueroa, AIA
Associate Principal
Antonio Figueroa is an architect and planner with extensive experience in institutional, commercial and transportation-related facilities. With responsibility for international projects at LHPA, he serves as urban planner for the new $1.2 billion East-West Corridor of the Kolkata Metro Railway in India. As team leader for the Kolkata project, he has been involved in property development including air rights transfer for properties adjacent to and above the underground stations.
Mr. Figueroa also led in the development of the Manual of Standards and Specifications for World Class Stations for the Indian Ministry of Railroads. The manual involved setting standards for a new category of World Class Rail Stations now under development in India. It is the basis for the procurement, design and redevelopment of more than 27 major urban rail stations.
Prior to joining LHPA, Mr. Figueroa was the NYC manager of a major national consulting firm, where he was in charge of $100 million in planning, design and construction and management for two New York City offices.
As Deputy Commissioner of Capital Development and Support Services for the NYC Corrections Department, Mr. Figueroa was responsible for a $1 billion capital program. He commissioned and completed a 20-year master plan for Rikers Island and upgraded all infrastructure and utilities on the island. He was also responsible for facility management of all the department structures
In his own practice, Sanchez and Figueroa Architects and Planners, Mr. Figueroa was responsible for the design and planning of institutional facilities. These projects included New York City Courts Master Plan for NYC Department of General Services (DGS), a $1.8 billion upgrade and expansion for the NYC Court system and Hostos Community College Master Plan for the City University of NY (CUNY) and the Dormitory of the State of NY (DASNY), a $65 million campus upgrade and expansion.
