Loews World Trade Center Hotel
New Orleans, Louisiana

Edward Durrell Stone's landmark design for the New Orleans World Trade Center has graced this city's skyline for more than thirty years. During these decades this building has been the cornerstone for where the now thriving Downtown meets the Mississippi River. It has spawned the completion of a major urban development zone with an Aquarium, the Riverwalk Shopping Mall and Spanish Court, the expanding Convention Center and, most recently the new million square foot Harrah's Casino directly across the street from the site. Interestingly, the existing floor plate is more suitable to hotel room layouts than it is for its present use as office space. This design provides for 800 total rooms in the renovation with all being sized to luxury standards. All rooms will command magnificent, unobstructed views of the downtown and Mississippi River. The concept provides for several levels of new construction at the base, including new entry/drop-off, reception, cafe & dining, health club and meeting / ballrooms with magnificent river views. Provision for 300 valet parking cars creates an outdoor garden space above that will be the site of the City's most prestigious entertainment functions. Respect for the original design will be carried throughout the exterior and interior of the large renovation through careful and sensitive detailing. Every modern convenience and function will be provided for while retaining and restoring the original character and grace of the tall structure. This work intends to maximize the site's value to the City of New Orleans and itself by reestablishing its presence at the turn of this century and by looking well into the next.
