HBO Satellite Communications Center HBO Video-A/V Conference Center Hauppauge, NY
|
The original design of the HBO Satellite Communications Center in Hauppage, NY was completed in 1988. A section of the building was left undeveloped for a future state-of-the-art video and conferencing facility to be designed and built at a later date. Eight years later, Lee Harris Pomeroy has been brought back to complete the building that was started almost a decade previous. In the time since the original building's conception, technology in video conferencing and audio-visual capabilities has advanced significantly. As a client and deliverer of such products to a demanding public, HBO required design and technical specifications that "stretch the envelope" of existing technology. LHPA responded with a unique and creative design that utilizes the materials and the technology in a way never done before. The solution calls for the use of the lens material, typically restricted to use as a frame for viewing, as a larger wall material. Used as a wall the lens appears "invisible" during periods of non-use, allowing the completely concealed, rear-projection equipment to surprise the viewer with a technically precise image that appears to float on a previously disguised wall. Great effort was spent in the architectural and interior detailing to blend the technical specifications of the screen, monitors and sound system with the aesthetics and materials that present the room as an otherwise sophisticated conference room. Just completed and occupied in Spring of 1997, this facility has won an award of "Best Presentation Room" by Presentations Magazine. |
