This information center for tourists and visitors to Florida provides both an image at a monumental scale appropriate to the speed of highway travel and a respite and resource for the traveler at a human scale appropriate for the individual. Located at the confluence of seven state and interstate highways, the center will have the advantage of a degree of exposure unique in Florida.
The building, reminiscent of courtyard buildings, recalls indigenous regional building styles in both materials and construction methods. Travelers leave their automobiles and pass through a series of spatial experiences which lead to a small, lushly landscaped, inner courtyard. There, visitors will be offered an opportunity to refresh themselves while finding information on a variety of Florida attractions on displays which surround the court. |
