Dutchess County Jail and Sheriff's Office Building Poughkeepsie, NY
|
This project involved the design of the new jail and recreation building as well as the rehabilitation of the original jail building for sheriff's offices.
Site planning concepts were applied to a deep, narrow site to determine the jail's campus-like secure interior access court. The lower level of the new building contains all administrative, inmate-intake, visitor and service functions. The upper two levels are restricted to 175 individual rooms, divided into housing units by classification and linked by means of a two-level supervised access corridor. Inmate activity and movement is concentrated within the upper-level housing section, organized in triangular shaped direct supervision modules. The American Institute of Architects and the American Correctional Association awarded the project a Citation for Excellence in Design of Criminal Justice Facilities. |
