Bellevue Hospital Center Entrance Arch and Walkway New York, NY
|
The main entrance of New York City's busiest hospital has become more prominent and convenient with the completion of a new entrance arch and walkway. The new design is inspired by a classical stone arch from an older building in the complex -- a 1930s design by McKim, Mead and White. The arch, which frames the Seal of the City of New York carved into the stone, is positioned at First Avenue and 27th Street.
In contrast to the classical arch, the walkway is a contemporary design of steel-framed glass panels that form a peaked canopy extending from the entry arch to the front door of the medical complex. |
